It started right here in Fort Lauderdale, at a barbecue that was supposed to be a quick workday lunch. A mutual friend made the introduction, and it didn't take long to discover we had two great loves in common: really good barbecue and the Florida Gators. That lunch turned into a lifetime of shared plates and game days. Every year we make the pilgrimage to a Gators football game together, a tradition we wouldn't miss for anything. (Yes, that's us with a gator in the photo. Chomp chomp.)
This city runs through both of our stories. Lawrence's career began here β first internship, first job at BlackBerry β and he's called Fort Lauderdale home ever since college. Elaine has spent her career quite literally building it: more than a decade as a construction project manager, first at Pirtle Construction and now Balfour Beatty, with projects rising all around Pier 66 β from the Port Everglades cruise terminals to the Broward Center for the Performing Arts. So getting married on this waterfront means celebrating in the middle of a skyline we know by heart β including pieces of it that Elaine helped build.

Perched on the Intracoastal Waterway with its famous rotating rooftop crown, Pier 66 has hosted six decades of celebrations. Freshly reimagined as a luxury resort and marina, it's ten minutes from the airport and steps from the water taxi. And for us it's home turf β look in almost any direction from the dock and you'll spot a project Elaine has managed.

Superyachts still line the docks where we'll say our vows at golden hour.
Reborn in 2025 as a world-class resort β and the backdrop for our celebration.
